Episode 73 – Congress Shall Make No Law

THE Conventions of a number of the States, having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

^ WTF? ^

The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power. Not wealth or luxury or long life or happiness: only power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from all the oligarchies of the past, in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just round the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means, it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power. Now do you begin to understand me?’

O’Brien to Winston, George Orwell’s 1984

But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap: And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.

Sing it, Jordan! I take back my (SLIGHT and OCCASIONAL, remember?) rolled eyeballs!!! Don’t you be reading lyrics on my account. The feedback I wish The Informant would have shared was how great we think the podcast is!

Question: Earlier this week a friend sent me a flier advertising a meeting to discuss educational freedom. The flier said, “Lawmakers are considering passing a bill that will hurt educational freedom in Utah. Private schools, pod schools, and homeschools will be directly affected.” I’ve poked around a little trying to find out more with no luck. Have either of you heard anything? I suspect mandatory public education is coming but am hoping for a little more time.

The roads are dangerous because they’re letting the criminals out of jail before their time in the can is up. Law enforcement and the government is shifting the blame on the rest of us so we don’t see their stupid decisions.
